Adult Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu — Gi & No-Gi

Structured adult BJJ for all levels — black belt instruction, small classes, first class always free.

Off Your Back BJJ Academy's adult program runs both Gi and No-Gi Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu with a structured curriculum designed to build real skill from day one. Whether you've never stepped on a mat or you're a seasoned competitor looking for a training home, our classes are built around progression — not chaos. You'll learn how to move, how to survive, how to attack, and how to submit with precision.

Gi BJJ teaches you to use the collar, lapels, and sleeves as control points — developing a technical, methodical game rooted in leverage and patience. No-Gi strips away the handles and demands faster reactions, tighter grips, and wrestling-based setups. Training both gives you a complete grappling game. Our schedule covers both formats across the week so you're never limited to one style.

Classes are kept intentionally small so every student gets direct coaching every time they train. Our head instructor holds a black belt and our coaching staff is hands-on throughout every class — not just at the start. If your goal is self-defense, fitness, competition prep, or simply the most engaging physical challenge you've ever taken on, this program is built for you. Your first class is completely free.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need experience to join the adult BJJ program?

No experience is needed at all. Off Your Back BJJ Academy welcomes complete beginners into the adult program. Our curriculum is structured to bring new students in safely from day one — you will not be thrown into advanced sparring before you're ready.

What is the difference between Gi and No-Gi BJJ?

Gi BJJ is trained in a traditional kimono (gi), which is used as a grip to control your opponent — it is slower and more technical. No-Gi BJJ is trained in shorts and a rashguard with no clothing grips, making it faster and more wrestling-based. Our adult program covers both formats throughout the week.

How many times per week should I train BJJ?

Most beginners start with 2-3 classes per week. Our adult schedule runs Tuesday evenings, Wednesday evenings, Thursday evenings, and Sunday mornings — giving you flexibility to build a consistent training habit without overtraining.

How long does it take to get a blue belt in BJJ?

The average time from white to blue belt is 1-2 years of consistent training. At Off Your Back BJJ Academy, belt promotions are based on technical skill, mat time, and character — not a fixed timeline. Progress is individual, but our structured curriculum accelerates development for dedicated students.

Is adult BJJ good for self-defense?

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is one of the most effective real-world self-defense systems available. It teaches you to control a larger attacker on the ground, escape dangerous positions, and submit opponents without relying on strength. After just a few months of training, you will have genuinely useful self-defense capability.
